I. LCD controller
1) The display controller is mainly responsible for obtaining image/video data from memory or FIFO channel, stacking and mixing in a certain way to send the final image to the external LCD for display, and it has a FIFO input interface of layer 0, 1 and 2 and an external FIFO output interface.
2) What is an LCD controller
An LCD controller is essentially different from an LCD driver. Simply put, LCD controllers function in embedded systems as video CARDS do in computers. The LCD controller is responsible for transferring LCD graphics data from video memory (which may be a designated field in memory) to the LCD Driver and generating the necessary LCD control signals to control and complete a series of complex graphics display functions such as graphic display, flip, stack, zoom, etc. The LCD driver is only responsible for the CPU sent the image data in the LCD display, will not do any processing to the image.
3) Why use LCD controller
LCD controller can be compatible with a variety of CPU interface,LCD controller can be compatible with a variety of LCD module interface, hardware to complete the complex image display function (zoom, flip, overlay, dynamic, etc.), to meet the high resolution display requirements
Ii. Difference between frame rate and refresh rate
Frame rate is the rate at which the picture changes. As long as the video card is strong enough, the frame rate can be very high. As long as the frame rate is high, the picture will be smooth. In theory, each frame is a different one. A 60FPS is a card that produces 60 images per second.
Refresh rate, as the name implies, is the speed at which the graphics card will display the signal output. Hertz outputs 60 signals per second to the display.
Assuming that the frame count is 1/2 of the refresh rate, this means that the graphics card outputs one picture every two times to the monitor. Conversely, if the frame rate is twice the refresh rate, only once of every two changes is sent by the video card and displayed on the monitor. Therefore, the number of frames higher than refresh rate is invalid, which does not improve the picture effect, but may lead to picture abnormalities.
