RGB interface is different from MCU interfac

July 03, 2020

The main difference between MCU-LCD and RGB-LCD is the location of video memory:

The display memory of RGB-LCD is served by the system memory, so its size is only limited by the size of the system memory, which allows RGB-LCD to be larger in size.

At the beginning of MCU-LCD design, as long as the memory of MCU is small, the VIDEO memory is built into the LCD module.

MCU-LCD display data transmission mode is also different from RGB-LCD display mode:

RGB screens only need video memory to organize the data. After starting the display. LCD-DMA automatically sends video memory to LCM through the RGB interface.

The MCU screen needs to send the command of drawing points to modify the INTERNAL RAM of the MCU. (That is, the RAM of the MCU screen cannot be directly used). Therefore, the RGB display speed is obviously faster than the MCU.

For the LCM of RGB interface, the output of the host is the RGB data of each pixel without any transformation (except GAMMA correction, etc.). For this interface, an LCD controller is required in the host part to generate RGB data and point, row, and frame synchronization signals.
